UK Science Adviser Beddington’s warning of the “Perfect Storm” has already started in several places worldwide. The recent book: “Philippines: Mining or Food?” shows how government enthusiasm for envirnmentally damaging mining has converted the Philippines from a rice exporter into the biggest rice importer — and they cant afford the rice, so the poor go hungry or worse.
